Find your Italy

Eatalianos… A blog about discovering life lessons in Italy.

Of course the Italians would cry over the improper grammar of my made up term Eatalianos. But, nonetheless, they’ve taught me so much of whats really important in life.

Come with me, as I learn about what it is to be a little bit Italian.

I’ve found something in Italy that is truly amazing. I’ve found art, architecture, adventure, friendship, music, dance, relaxation, language, challenges, food, beverages, mountains, beaches, festivals, sagre, love of life, passion, respect, family, birth, graduations, marriages, (sadly) death, competitions, history, philosophy, cars, bicycles, roads, trails, relationships, attitudes, wisdom and so much more. Things that I didn’t even know were missing. I’ve found my Italy!

Almost everything is different in Italy. And having lived in the USA for nearly 60 years, I’d put some filters on, that need readjusting to see clearly.

Excited about my discoveries, I wanted to share what I’d found with others. After a number of discussions with close friends, many of whom also wanted to be a part of the Italian dream I realized I was mildly mis-guided. At first I believed that they wanted to experience what I had found. But, really, that was only  meaningful to me. For them, I needed to help them find what was interesting, important and live changing to them. I had to help them find ‘their Italy’.

As I spoke with people about the joy I’d found, they expressed a desire to replicate what I’d done. But, on a deeper level, that’s not what they really wanted. They wanted to do something different, but found some ease/comfort/safety in following what I had found. In the long run, it wasn’t what they wanted.

You may have to do some challenging things to find your Italy. But I promise you that it’s worth it.

I realize my journey and destination differ greatly from other peoples. But, what I’ve learned can be a lesson to others in their own discovery.

Could your Italy be close to home? Could it be in another state, or is it in another country? Can you bring your Italy direct to you, regardless of where you are? Do you need to travel great distances to find it? Maybe, that’s up to you.

Hopefully you’ll be able reflect and find what drives you, brings you happiness, lights your fire, ignites your passion.

I’d like to take you on a journey of things I’ve learned as I discover ‘my Italy’. Observations of a culture close, but oh so far.

I’ve found my Italy. Together – let’s find yours!

I want to follow this because my grandparents were from Italy. I always have wanted to there!! Some of my cousins have been there to meet my relatives. I will go someday. In the meantime I would like to fo there through your blog. I don’t know much about blogs. Do I subscribe to it?

  2. Hi MaryBeth!
If you put your email in my list. Is your hotmail addr still ok? I’ll send you a new blog post every week! That’s my plan at least. There may be more, but that’s the pace that I’m targeting.
It’s so fun, when someone visits our little village with roots here. We’ve had several families come by, to visit relatives, see where and how people lived. The village LOVES it when people come. You may have never met, but “You’re Family”. Prepare to be doted over, fed, and walked all over – with tons of stories, laughs and images! And you’ll be introduced to everyone! They are proud of their village, and proud of you – the visitor – as your roots are ‘here’.
